2 Kings 6:17-And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Dear Father, of all the physical senses You have given me, I will never like to lose my sight. The thought of going blind and having my independence, freedom and ability to go whenever and wherever I want taken away is mind-boggling. I watched a documentary some time back and a man who was born blind said that he does not know what colours or the sea looks like. That hurts because he has missed the beauty of the colours of nature around him.
Although eyes are useful, they can be distracting and problematic to the Christian. This was the case with Elisha’s servant. When the king of Aram sent an army of horses with chariots to capture Elisha, he felt overpowered and fear gripped his heart. His words to Elisha were, “What shall we do?” (2 Kings 6:15). The prophet had to reassure him not to be afraid because those who were with them were more than those who were with the enemy, (2 Kings 6:16). Elisha then asked You to open his spiritual eyes; when this was done he was able to see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha, (2 Kings 6:17).
This man’s sight was an enemy to his faith and so is mine. Living in a physical world the spirit realm is never discussed among Christians. We have read and heard about angels and demons but that is as far as it goes. I know demons are real and are out to hurt and destroy while angels are to protect. Today’s lesson has given me a glimpse into the spirit world. Open my spiritual eyes to see angels are all around me and I should not fear when I encounter difficulties.
When life is difficult I should focus on God, not my problem.
